Margaret "Peggy" M. Mortensen Obituary Margaret “Peggy” Maxine Mortensen passed away on August 4, 2026 at Allure of Prophetstown. She was born on March 13, 1947 in Lancaster, WI, to Raymond and June (Munns) Moen. She grew up in Fennimore, WI, and graduated from Fennimore High School in 1965. She married Richard (Dick) Young on May 17, 1969. They settled in Erie, IL, with their son Scott who died in 1980. Peggy later married Carl Mortensen on September 25, 1991 in Galena, IL, and they moved to Pearl City, IL. Peggy worked several years at ComEd in Cordova, IL, as a Nuclear Security Officer and then at Walmart in Freeport, IL. Peggy was very creative and enjoyed decorating her home, crafting and creating her beautiful flower garden full of Lilies and her favorite Coneflowers. Peggy will be remembered for her love of the Green Bay Packers, Diet Coke and all things Winnie the Pooh. After the death of her husband Carl, Peggy moved to Heritage Woods Assisted Living Facility in Sterling, IL, and finally to Allure of Prophetstown. She is survived by her stepchildren, Carla (Roger) Jaquet, Jeffrey Mortensen, Jodi (Jim Garson) Youngberg, all of Erie, IL, Christopher (Christine) Mortensen, Colona, IL, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Daniel (Kathy) Moen, Franksville, WI, Mary (George Warren) Gibson, Stoughton, WI, Susan Moen, Dodgeville, WI, James (Holly) Moen, Davis, CA, and Rose (Mark) Freidel of DeForest, WI, brother-in-law Clark (Darrellyn) Mortensen, Erie, IL, and sister-in-law, Donna Titus, Moline, IL. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her son Scott, her parents, brother-in-law John Gibson, nephew Casey Freidel and stepfather John Rewey. Per Peggy’s wishes, there will be no visitation. She will be laid to rest next to her son, Scott, at a private, graveside service in the Bethel Cemetery in Fennimore, WI at a later date. Memorials may be made to an animal shelter of donor's choice. Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie, IL, is assisting with arrangements.
